| Let what be? It? All of it or just some selected elements? Should I care about what could be or should I just let it be and let it fade out of my immediate perception … and therefore let my mind wander on to some other place? Why should I let it be? Why should it be at all? Hm … who creates it, makes it, would be responsible for it? What are his or her motives?
The title opens more questions than could be answered and the music is definitely not able to clear matters up or even helpful on a larger scale. Twenty tracks appear on the vinyl disk; I have bought the MP3s though, because the costs for porto and package are just outrageous at times. Twelve pieces on side A and eight on side B – this would be the basic setting. None of the tracks are complete. Complete in the sense of offering a distinct as well as lasting structure, rhythmic models and concept. Music appears and vanishes again. Fragments fill the air, but are doomed to break apart. Somehow, and judging from some of the samples, those tracks come over as echoes from the past – distorted reverberations, aberrations, hallucinations. They are and are not. An oxymoron? They are akin to a reliving of what has been and what is not, but somehow portrait through a filter and reduced to some elements, some important but highly subjective and not to mention susceptible aspects. There is never a definite direction, a definite path that one could follow. Music appears without engaging the listener in any kind of way. It offers something but provides nothing. Everything returns to where it all began, a vague glimpse into a surreal world, whose basic concept is an illusion. You are invited, but left out and reduced to the role of a spectator once the melodies start.
The counter argument that those sounds are projections of someone impotent and alienated can be cast aside because the musical commenting is generally too gentle or rather too bereft of intensity that such a line of thought can be backed up. Of course, the impact that games and soundtracks from Silent Hill and the like might have, could play a role in this regard. Nevertheless, psychology is quite clear on this matter and would rather suggest some other reaction should such a deduction be brought up.
Maybe one should go so far and see the title of the release as an imperative. What exists immediately and how we react to it, is determined by the basic information that is being provided. As this is somewhat artificially limited, the reaction of an ordinary person might be a certain kind of frustration about the lack of libidinal satisfaction. Letitbe might want to remind people about letting things play out the way they are and the way they are doomed to evolve. You cannot stop such from happing and you cannot always expect things to meeting one's (distinct) standard of musical preferences and you cannot change things how matter what has happened or what tragic outcome has come to fruition. Kafka comes to mind of course.
Are those samples faded memories then and the music the comment on it? Who knows
There are a multitude of sounds and impressions. Sometimes harmonious, sometimes engaging, sometimes disturbing. They leave the listener bewildered, fascinated and disturbed. Field recording have always since feeling of sensation and intimacy to them, but such an impression can never be conjured up on this release. All is incomplete and open to interpretation; maybe, just maybe, someone familiar with the Spanish tongue, be it Castilian or Catalan, could break some of the immediate barriers that are created by the band. Even though it is not the Beatles that have found their way on this recording, it is nevertheless an interesting experience to take this trip and to listen to the various recordings and sounds on this album.
